Upgrade Discovery Admin
IMPORTANT | Step 1 | Expert Tip | Step 2 | FAQ | Step 3 | NOTE
IMPORTANT
NOTE: The UI has changed starting with the Washington DC ServiceNow Release.
Please align the steps below to match the UI in the Washington DC ServiceNow Release.
Discovery Admin should not be actively Analyzing Logs or Generating Incidents during the upgrade window.
This could result in unexpected errors resulting from inconsistencies between the older table structure and the newer code base.
This needs to be a collaborative effort between the ServiceNow Discovery Support Team and the ServiceNow Platform Support Team.
Proactively ensure there is no Scheduled Troubleshooting or Scheduled Incident Generation actively running or scheduled to run, leading up to the upgrade window.
To pause an active Troubleshooting, click the { Pause } UI Action on the Troubleshooting Form. The { Pause } UI Action is context sensitive and only visible on the Troubleshooting Form when the Troubleshooting is in progress. (v9.3)
To resume a paused Troubleshooting, click the { Resume } UI Action on the Troubleshooting Form, after the upgrade is complete. The { Resume } UI Action is context sensitive and only visible on the Troubleshooting Form when the Troubleshooting is paused. (v9.3)
To cancel an active Troubleshooting, click the { Cancel } UI Action on the Troubleshooting Form. The { Cancel } UI Action is context sensitive and only visible on the Troubleshooting Form when the Troubleshooting is in progress. (v9.1)
If you suspect the Troubleshooting is hung, reach out to the ServiceNow Platform Support team to ensure there are no Discovery Admin Active Transactions running in the background, before initiating the upgrade.
To ensure there is no unintentional Troubleshooting initiated during the upgrade window, based on an active Scheduled Troubleshooting, reach out to the ServiceNow Platform team to verify there is no corresponding record overlapping with the upgrade window in the Table: sys_trigger
If a record is found, disable the corresponding Scheduled Troubleshooting (Active = false). This will remove the corresponding entry from the sys_trigger Table.
Remember to enable the corresponding 'Scheduled Troubleshooting' after the upgrade is complete (Active = true).
For Customers with multiple Scheduled Troubleshooting entries, it may be easier to temporarily disable all the Scheduled Troubleshooting Records, before the upgrade and enable them after the upgrade is complete.
Step 1
Navigate to: System Definitions > Plugins
Search for: Discovery Admin
Expert Tip: What if Discovery Admin isn't visible in the Search Results?
Follow the guidelines to Manage Discovery Admin Entitlements for your ServiceNow Instance.
Expert Tip: What if the Update Button is greyed out?
ServiceNow automatically disables new App Installs if:
you are outside the Free Trial window
your Discovery Admin subscription has expired
Please reach out to your Discovery Admin point-of-contact for resolution.
Step 2
Select: The latest version of Discovery Admin from the Choice Field
Click: Update
Follow: The prompts presented via the UI to complete the Upgrade
FAQ: How long will the Upgrade take?
Once initiated, the upgrade should complete within 5 minutes.
It’s normal for the upgrade to move rapidly to above 90% complete, and wait there for a couple minutes before it gets completed.
However, some Discover Admin upgrades may include modifications to the core tables that run the App. Depending on the number of rows you have in these tables, the upgrade could take a few minutes to a few hours.
ServiceNow Displays the progress of the upgrade to provide real-time insights.
Note that all upgrades (including long-running upgrades) run in the background and thus have minimal impact on the ServiceNow Instance.
Step 3
To validate the successful upgrade of Discovery Admin:
Reload: The browser page to ensure the Left Navigation has been updated
Navigate to: Discovery Admin
You will see the Discovery Admin Application suffixed with the latest version that Discovery Admin was upgraded to
NOTE
You are NOT done yet. To complete the upgrade, please review the Post Upgrade Steps.
